The "future of work" is here today!

We need to level up our business operating system (BOS) to create a single system that is continuous from strategy development through to day-to-day execution.

We are all sure that the stresses on our organizations caused by COVID and the related market and business issues will continue into the foreseeable future. We need to create business success while we continue to work-from-home (WFM). Success includes better performance but also includes reducing stress, increasing alignment and employee engagement, and building agility throughout our organizations.

This, in turn, means that we need to level up our business operating system (BOS) to create a single system that is continuous from strategy development through to day-to-day execution. Think of this by timeframe:

  • five-year view (strategy) through
  • yearly strategic objectives,
  • quarterly OKRs
  • Monthly/weekly meetings and collaboration tools, and
  • Daily Tasks and KPIs

Think of these are your organization's goals - now you need a system to enable them. This system needs to be powered by OKRs - the most powerful and agile management system - along with a mix of 'best practices' developed by Operations, Human Resources, Quality, and other functional areas from across the organization.

My team and I have built a prototype tool to deliver this scope of functionality, but we are learning that the demand for this is far larger than we anticipated. While continuing this important prototype creation, we have decided to codify what we are learning and what needs to be learned.

We have begun to write a white paper on what this better system might look like. We are looking for co-authors and input on the need for this new operating system (BOS) and what it might look like, what are the 'best practices for it to include, and what are the design structures.

If you'd like to contribute to this great work by helping us write the paper, pilot the ideas in your organization or develop business case studies, just me know.
